trafficking news in the EU

Submitted by heather on Wed, 2008-02-13 01:35.

Greetings from Jackson, TN. Its been a long while since i have posted. here is a quick update on myself. Im living here in Jackson, TN while im attending school at Union University (No, I don't live on campus). I am working on my Master's in Teaching English as a Second Language. I decided to go into ELL or ESL because when I was working at the YWCA, trafficking wasn't much of a big deal because we didn't have that many victims but we knew there were victims out there in the area that were just too afraid to speak out for many obvious reasons (safety, security/ trust, language barriers, etc).

brainstorming 2

I want to let you know what's going on so far. unfortunately, there isnt too much to report but i have been doing a lot of thinking.

right now, im focusing on breaking down each section of what i want my organization to represent itself. I think i have been trying to focus on all at the same time (which isnt a bad thing) but doing that a lot can cause confusion and you tend to lose sight of what you are trying to do.

Notes from Memphis

Well it looks like there are more bugs in the system, so I am posting this on Heather's behalf. See forum topic brainstorming for more on Heather's work -aden

So I hope all had a good holiday, the other weekend.

These last week and few days, I have been trying to just stay with what I said was going to start out with: HIV Pretest/ Postest Counseling, ESL Classes, Referral Services, and Community Education. Why is it every time, I start on something, another piece of the puzzle decides to push itself in before its time to complete the entire puzzle?

I have looked some websites such as the following:
Korean Immigrant Worker's Association(www.kiwa.org)
Coalition of Immowalkee Workers (www.ciw-online.org )
Latino Union of Chicago(www.latinounion.org)
Mississippi Workers Center (www.msworkerscenter.org)
Student Farmer Alliance ( www.sfalliance.org)
Farmers Labor Organizing Committee (www.floc.com)
and
Open Society Institute (www.soros.org )

For those of you who are reading this, my name is Heather and Im from Memphis, TN. I work for the YWCA as a Bilingual victim's advocate. What I would like to do (within 2 years) is start some type of organization that would assist with victims of trafficking.

LIFETIME'S HUMAN TRAFFICKING SERIES

Submitted by heather on Sun, 2005-11-13 13:32.

I finally watched both parts of the series. I understand that the issue of human trafficking is very broad and that it can range from anything like dealing with sex workers to worker's rights. I know its difficult to fully focus on all aspects of 1 issue but i just kinda wished that since lifetime was calling it a "miniseries" they could have also focused on the people who were trafficked as labor instead of prostitution as well.

I thought I would create thread for links related to the release of the 2005 TIP report.

So the first one is of course the report itself.
